Kep Agriculture

The agriculture sector in the area relies almost entirely on its abundant marine resources, including coastal fisheries and aquaculture, as well as traditional land-based activities such as pepper cultivation and salt production. These sectors not only reflect the region’s natural endowments and cultural heritage but also offer strong potential for value-added processing, sustainable livelihoods, and integration into niche export markets.

Kep is a small province with a niche and important role in Cambodia’s coastal agriculture sector. It is best known for its high-quality salt and pepper, which serve high-end and export markets, as well as its fresh seafood, especially crab, squid, shrimp, small fish and dried seafood, supplied through the famous Crab Market. Though limited in scale, Kep’s focus on unique, high-value products makes it a key contributor to the coastal agro-processing system. Its vibrant tourism industry also drives demand for local, value-added foods. Together with nearby production areas and export hubs like Preah Sihanouk, Kep helps strengthen and diversify the region’s agro-industry by connecting specialized supply with growing market demand.

Agricultural Raw Products

Kep’s agriculture is small in scale but centered on high-value, niche products. The province is best known for its premium-quality pepper, part of the Kampot-Kep terroir, and traditional sea salt, both serving high-end domestic and export markets. Though smallholder farms also grow rice, vegetables, and fruits, it’s these specialty goods that define the province’s identity and contribution to the coastal agro-processing network.

Seafood and Aquatic Product

Although Kep doesn’t have large seafood processing facilities, it contributes to the local seafood scene through its daily supply of fresh crab, squid, shrimp, small fish and dried seafood, especially at the famous Crab Market. Some small-scale processing, such as sun-drying, supports local tourism and hospitality. Kep’s seafood offerings remain a key part of its coastal food culture and visitor experience.
